FLORIDA REMOTE COURT REPORTER

The Florida court reporter who records a legal deposition remotely demonstrates a greater level of functioning and expertise. Through the use of internet, as well as the additionally required hardware and software, the court reporter must complete a series of tasks simultaneously. Strong internet connection, along with two computers; the stenograph machine or, steno-mask; recording devices; headphones; Zoom software with premium service; and computer-aided translation (CAT) software are a few components needed for the Florida remote court reporter during an online legal deposition via Zoom.

Internet

A strong internet connection is one priority for the remote court reporter. The recommended bandwidth for high quality video is 1.0 Mbps/600kbps for panelists, and is necessary in order to prevent lag.

Proficient use of the internet is also needed not only for obvious reasons- but because there are times when an attendee will request technical support.

The court reporter in a remote setting must maintain a strong internet presence throughout the duration of any legal deposition online.

Hardware

Legal depositions conducted through Zoom require an entirely different setup for the Florida remote court reporter than an in-person setting.

Two computers are needed; computer specifications for Zoom are 4GB dual-core 2Ghz or higher (Intel i3/i5/i7 or AMD equivalent) and the (CAT) software requires 3GHz or greater with minimum 8 gigs of RAM.

Plus, the stenograph machine, or steno-mask, audio recording device(s), video recording device, and headphones are each required hardware components.

Software

The skillful use of software will allow the remote court reporter in Florida to demonstrate qualities which are beyond those within a typical scenario.

The remote legal deposition requires an online platform, generally Zoom- as such, will require the premium grade service subscription. CAT software is needed for the Machine stenographer, or steno-mask court reporter- and Dragon software (for voice writer only).

Finally, e-stickers for marking exhibits and possibly an exhibit handling system such as web-ex is useful.
